Celebrity Solstice Aquaclass Review

Celebrity Solstice Blu

Review by Diane Nicolson

EASTERN MEDITERRANEAN 10 NIGHT CRUISE

Much has already been written about this fantastic ship, and the AquaSpa, but I'd like to share with you the other delights of AquaClass.  In size and general amenity, the cabins are the same as other balcony cabins.  Like anything else, though, it's the little things that make all the difference.  Pillow choices, plusher robes and towels and a different range of toiletries.  Nice extras are dedicated check-in, champagne on ice on arrival, afternoon canapes, and best of all constantly replenished supplies of bottled water, iced tea and juices.  All of these extras come with Concierge Class, but where AquaClass triumphs is with the Blu Restaurant.  Only AquaClass guests eat there for breakfast and dinner, and we absolutely loved it.

Being avid fans of "anytime" dining, we were apprehensive about fixed seating/times, and as foodies, what the "healthy" emphasis would mean - believe me, this was the best dining experience we've had.  Firstly breakfast - fresh squeezed juices, muesli prepared at your table, smoothies, and the wonderful Solstice and Blu Parfaits (yoghurt, berries, muesli/granola concoctions served in a large wine glass), blueberry pancakes, and all the usual hot dishes, pastries, whatever you want.  It's free seating for breakfast, and there were never more than 30 people  in there at any one time - a calm, delicious start to the day.

With the blessing of the Maitre d', we were able to show up a little late for dinner every day - because almost all of the tables are for two, you are not making other guests wait as you might risk in the main dining room, and this little bit of flexibility made a world of difference to our enjoyment.  We liked the table arrangements, cosy enough to chat to your neighbours, but with an airy, open ambiance.  It was like going out to fine dining restauarant every evening.  The staff are exemplary, the service and attention immaculate, your every preference remembered from the outset.  The menu is completely different from the main dining room, and the healthy part simply means no heavy sauces.

Superb seafood, great steaks, unusual starters and lovely soups, which are served in a unique and charming way.  My husband never looked at the menu, he simply ordered our waiter's recommendations, and was never disappointed.  What more can I say?  Put it this way, if on our next Solstice class ship we cannot get AquaClass - we're not going.  And if we were offered an upgrade from AquaClass to a suite, ie not able to eat at Blu, we'd say no thanks - it really is that good.
