Day 1 - Kangerlussuaq

Summer is the season of the midnight sun. It is easy to lose one’s sense of time while exploring the gateway to Greenland. As the country’s only inland town, the adventurous spirit finds plenty to pursue on the massive ice cap nearby and at the mouth of the fjord. Visit the Kangerlussaq Museum to uncover the town’s history as a U.S. Air Force base or kayak in one of the backcountry’s lakes during the region’s endless days.

Day 2 - Sisimiut Holsteinsborg

For those seeking backcountry adventures and scenic cruises, this rugged, remote town offers endless pursuits in nature with a touch of urban cool. Day 3 - Ililussat

Day 4 - Eqi Glacier - Paul Emile Victor Base

Eqi Glacier - more popularly known as “the calving glacier” – lies along Greenland’s stunning west coast, around 50 miles north of Greenland’s third largest city, Ilulissat. One of the nation’s largest and most active glaciers, chunks of ice are constantly breaking off – or calving – into the waters of beautiful Disko Bay, which is typically crowded with the enormous icebergs and teeming with humpback, minke and fin whales.

Day 5 - Evighedsfjorden

Day 6 - Paamiut, Greenland

To encounter one of the most iconic elements of this Greenlandic town, one must simply look up. The white-tailed eagle, known as Nattoralik, is abundant amid the foggy skies. Day 7 - Ivigut

Located in the Arsuk Fjord, this abandoned mining town was vibrant and active for nearly 130 years. Today, this mineral-rich area known for its abundance of rare cryolite offers only a hint of its golden years. One can still visit the empty mine, rent one of the forgotten houses along the water, or search for humpback whales along the fjord’s quiet shores via Zodiac.

Day 9 - Narssarssuaq

Stand in the place where Erik the Red and Viking settlers stood over a millennium ago. This is the land where Norse Vikings gave Greenland its name and where the New World’s first Christian church was built. Today, there’s an airfield close by. Turquoise icebergs and the deep verdant Valley of Flowers give way to the Greenland ice sheet above which eagles and hawks soar. Hiking, biking, sailing, fishing, or simply taking a rest on scenic beaches are all worth the journey to this fabled locale.

Canada's L'Anse aux Meadows, a UNESCO World Heritage site, sits at the end of Newfoundland's Great Northern Peninsula, where Leif Erikson set foot on continental North America around the year 1000 AD, preceding the arrival of Christopher Columbus by about 500 years. The archaeological site features the remains of the original Viking settlement and replica buildings where costumed guides bring to life Viking traditions. Nearby Norstead Viking Village houses a replica of Leif Erikson's ship.

Day 12 - Woody Point, Newfoundland

Situated on Bonne Bay in the heart of Newfoundland's Gros Morne National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site, the town of Woody Point provides an idyllic gateway to the park's natural wonders. Its scenery of flat-top mountains, fjords, valleys and lakes is the handiwork of continental drift and glacial action over millennia. Just beyond Woody Point lie the Tablelands, the park's centerpiece, offering the rare opportunity to walk on the Earth's mantle, usually found far below the Earth's crust.
