The 70 or so Orkney Islands lie at the north west tip of Scotland, where the Atlantic Ocean meets the North Sea. Kirkwall, the capital of the archipelago, is a Viking town founded in 1035 by Earl Rognvald Brusason. You’ll find that the original ancient Norse town has been beautifully preserved and provides an intriguing place to while away your time.

Day 4 - Thorshaven

Take a deep breath and savour that fresh sea air as you reach the untamed natural beauty of the Faroes. Situated between the Norwegian Sea and the North Atlantic Ocean, with Iceland on one side and Norway on the other, this group of islands offer steep mountains, idyllic villages and a unique light.

Day 5 - At Sea

Day 6 - Reykjavik

Arrive: Mon 09 August 2021 at 08:00

The name means ‘Smoky (or Steamy) Bay’ but these days the Icelandic capital Reykjavik is even hotter than that. Its reputation now as a truly cultural, cosmopolitan city, with great restaurants and lively nightlife, has made it a hugely popular destination.

Day 7 - Reykjavik

Depart: Tue 10 August 2021

The name means ‘Smoky (or Steamy) Bay’ but these days the Icelandic capital Reykjavik is even hotter than that. Its reputation now as a truly cultural, cosmopolitan city, with great restaurants and lively nightlife, has made it a hugely popular destination.

Day 8 - Isafjordur

Arrive: Wed 11 August 2021 at 09:00 / Depart: Wed 11 August 2021 at 18:00

The Icelandic fishing port of Isafjordur is the perfect starting point for those who want to experience the magnificent natural beauty of the West Fjords, and its two valleys of Tungudalur and Engidalur lend themselves well to outdoor pursuits. Surrounded by steep sloping mountains you can indulge in a spot of skiing, golfing, or hiking - just some of the activities on offer.

Day 9 - Akureyri

Arrive: Thu 12 August 2021 / Depart: Thu 12 August 2021 at 18:00

A genuine ‘Midnight Sun' destination, Akureyi cruise port is a charming Icelandic town with a stunning location on the country's longest fjord - Eyjafjordur. There are several interesting museums and churches but the most amazing feature of Akureyi is its botanical garden - not surprisingly, the most northerly in the world. That this glorious display of flowers and plants thrives is a tribute to the local microclimate which is remarkably mild for somewhere so close to the Arctic Circle.

Day 10 - At Sea

Day 11 - At Sea

Day 12 - At Sea

Day 13 - Honningsvaag

Arrive: Mon 16 August 2021 / Depart: Mon 16 August 2021 at 18:00

They call Honningsvaag the North Cape cruise port these days, as this busy fishing port town on Mageroya Island is the capital of Nordkapp, Norways most northerly municipality. Bounded by the Barents Sea, Nordkapp comprises Mageroya and the facing stretch of mainland, but the place everyone wants to visit is the North Cape Plateau about 20 miles from Honningsvaag.

Day 14 - Tromso, Norway

Arrive: Tue 17 August 2021 / Depart: Tue 17 August 2021 at 18:00

Tromsø is delightfully situated on the forest-covered island of Troms and is 'The Gateway to the Arctic'. Here you'll find a charming blend of old and new, where wooden houses sit alongside modern architecture. Ascend to the top of Mount Storsteinen to enjoy a birds-eye-view of the city and its surroundings, learn about arctic life through the ages in Tromso Museum and admire the church - also known as the 'Arctic Cathedral'

Day 15 - Leknes, Lofoten Islands

Day 16 - Narvik

Arrive: Thu 19 August 2021 / Depart: Thu 19 August 2021

Day 17 - At Sea

Day 18 - Trondheim

Arrive: Sat 21 August 2021 at 08:00 / Depart: Sat 21 August 2021 at 18:00

Trondheim is one of the oldest and most charming cities in Norway founded approximately 1000 years ago. In Bakklandet, the most scenic part of Trondheim, you'll find brightly painted 18th-century warehouses, and a number of popular bars and restaurants for you to enjoy! Take a trip back through the years to Medieval times with a visit to the splendid Open-Air Museum, or visit one of Norway's architectural highlights, its medieval cathedral. With its Gothic arched nave and magnificent stained-glass rose window, it is the perfect place to house the Norwegian Crown Jewels.

Day 19 - Kristiansund, Norway

Arrive: Sun 22 August 2021 at 09:00 / Depart: Sun 22 August 2021 at 18:00

Kristiansand in Norway has two boasts. First, it's at the head of one of the loveliest of fjords. Second, and more prosaically, it's a leading centre for dried-cod production

Day 20 - Alesund

Arrive: Mon 23 August 2021 / Depart: Mon 23 August 2021 at 18:00

Because it was completely rebuilt after being destroyed by fire in 1904, Alesund looks quite different to other Norwegian towns along the countrys west coast now better known as simply ‘Fjordland'. Stretching across three islands at the mouth of the magnificent Geirangerfjord, Alesunds architecture is now an eclectic mixture of mock-Gothic and neo-classical with more than a dash of Art Nouveau. Turrets and spires dot the skyline and you can trace the towns trend setting style development at the Art Nouveau Centre, one of several fascinating museums in the town. The pick is the open-air Sunnmøre while the Atlantic Sea-Park is also worth a visit as one of the largest aquariums in northern Europe.

Day 21 - Skjolden

Arrive: Tue 24 August 2021 / Depart: Tue 24 August 2021 at 18:00

Surrounded by steep hills with spectacular falls, Skjolden is located at the head of the longest navigable fjord in the world – Sognefjord. As well as being situated in a breathtaking location, the town itself is host to a number of activities and attractions. Once home to the Austrian philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein (1889-1951), he wrote some of his most important works here.
