Beloved for its beaches, Tenerife also offers a feast for the eyes. Either from the numerous galleries and museums or the incredibly panoramic cable car ascent of Mount Teide, there is so much to see. Tenerife is soothing on the ears, too. Listen for the timple, a distinctive element of Canarian folk music, or perhaps catch a recital at the Auditorio, home to the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra.

Day 11 - Nassau

Nassau is the vibrant capital of the Bahamas, which brims with colonial architecture and historic buildings such as Vendue House, the magnificent Christ Church Cathedral, and the Nassau Public Library. Perhaps climb the sandstone cliffs via Queen's Staircase, explore the tunnels of Fort Charlotte, or swim with exotic marine life in the shimmering turquoise waters.

Amber Cove is close to Puerto Plata on the north coast of the Dominican Republic. From here you can enjoy a drink at the Brugal Rum factory or the 16th-century San Felipe Fort, built to repel pirates. The natural scenery a little further inland is wonderful for hiking and mountain-biking, while the coastline has a reputation for excellent watersports, thanks to its predictable natural breezes.

Forming a British Overseas Territory, this archipelago consists of around 40 low-lying islands southeast of the Bahamas. Grand Turk is the second most populated, even at scarcely seven square miles. The oldest known residents were the Arawak-speaking Taino people, and it is believed they traded salt which formed naturally when the sea water entered shallow inland ponds and evaporated in the sun. Indeed British colonists from Bermuda arrived in the late seventeenth century to collect the salt, and they modified the system. There’s still plenty of evidence of the low stone walls used to compartment off the salt pans across the islands, not least at the Salt House museum next to Town Salina.

Little San Salvador Island, also called Half Moon Cay, is a tiny private island in the Bahamas. Accessible by cruise ship, it's known for the long, crescent-shaped Half Moon Beach. Luxury cabanas dot the beachfront, which gives way to trail-lined country rich in birdlife. Half Moon Lagoon Aqua Park has water slides and playgrounds.

Day 21 - St John's, Antigua

Famously dusted with pristine white sands and pulsating to the rhythm of steel drums, Antigua is a real Caribbean treat. Visit Shirley Heights, a fortress dominating the entry to the English Harbour. From the bustling bijou port of St. Johns, tour to Shirley Heights and the fortress entrance to English Harbour. Historic Nelson's dockyard warehouses now feature a variety of shops and restaurants.

Day 22 - Fort de France, Martinique

Despite its French flavour, Martinique is classic Caribbean. Part of the Lesser Antilles, it sits serenely between Dominica and St Lucia, and is every inch as beautiful and relaxed as its neighbours. Fruit crops flourish in the rich volcanic soil surrounding Mt. Pelée. This semi-active volcano devastated former capital St Pierre in 1902 and a tour of the ruins is a fascinating day trip.

Day 23 - Barbados

Barbados is one of the most well known and beautiful islands in the eastern Caribbean. It is part of the British Commonwealth and is named after the Bearded Fig Tree, which was once found in abundance. Barbados is an island where relaxation and adventure go hand in hand. White sandy beaches stretch for miles while snorkelling and sailing are some of the world-class water sports on offer. A cruise to Barbados starts with a walk around Bridgetown, the capital city, which was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2011. The city has a charming combination of colonial buildings and Caribbean vibrancy. Make sure you visit St Nicholas Abbey, a historic plantation house and one of three Jacobean mansions in the Western Hemisphere.

Upon docking at Road Town, you can explore the many beauties of Tortola, including ivory-coloured sands, crystal-clear aquamarine seas and the beautiful and natural world of JR O’Neal Botanic Gardens.
